TESTIMONIALS
We didn’t just learn what was funny but also why it was funny and how it could help you. We covered everything from silly sounding words to the physiological basis of laughter. Laughter is a very powerful force. Something is funny because it forces you to see things from an unexpected perspective. That’s the key. A different perspective provides new ideas and fresh insights which drive your creativity which leads to more insights and more creativity and pretty soon you are awash with possibilities. […] As each new person joined our group I saw the same thing happen over and over again. People who could barely look you in the eye became people who could confidently stand on a stage, alone, in front of 350 people and make them laugh. What a phenomenal gift to bestow.

I was a 47 year old engineer who had absolutely no exposure to the performing arts, and only infrequent public speaking experience, when my wife enrolled me in my first Intro to Comedy Workshop as a gift. This was an activity/experience that my wife felt would give me a break from my stressful and tedious career, and worries caused by my recent heath complications. With Kate Lyn’s patient guidance and encouragement, I gradually started to develop some of my own material.... the overall experience has had a profound impact on how I now view life. The world is not a rational place; and if you look at it closely we’re surrounded by incongruity, confusion, and silliness which together provide a strong foundation for comedy.

I have had such a good time at the workshops; I am like a kid running out of the house, can't wait to get there and can't believe it when you say it’s over. Damn I wish the class went on all day; I was having that much fun! I've also had this explosion sort of thing that goes on in my mind particularly after the workshops, Its as if everything I see turns into some funny thing in my mind, makes me laugh.

I can hear you now. "Life's too complex. I can't waste my time studying comedy. I need solutions!" What KateLyn shows you is that by looking at life through a different lens, comedy leads to fresh perspectives, new ideas and more effective solutions. In studying with her, I've learned about myself, found a post-retirement avocation and accomplished things I never thought possible, like standing on stage alone in front of 300 people and making them laugh. So, yea, it's about comedy but it’s even more about life!

If you really want to learn the SKILL and ART of comedy, there is no one better to guide you. Kate Lyn's gift to her students is teaching what can't be taught, finding what's already inside and dragging it out (sometimes kicking and screaming!). You have helped me find my voice! Now the fun is in the "work" of comedy. From initial improv to finding a gig, your experience is invaluable. Everything in my life is different...in a good way.
Thanks!

PS:If you are reading this, just do it! You'll LOVE it!!
Opportunities catch your attention when you are ready for them. I saw a Humor in the Midst flyer at a time when I had lost my sense of humor and the absurd thought hit me that maybe they had found it. Humor in the Midst hadn’t, apparently, found my sense of humor but they did help me find it. The exercises and lessons Kate Lyn has us do have shown me how to “find the funny” in most everyday life.
It was never my intention to do stand-up comedy. Recently, however, I did my “Comedy Recital” – a 5-minute comedy routine in front of an audience. I loved it! And most amazing of all, to paraphrase Sally Field, they loved me! Taking Kate Lyn’s workshops is the most valued added activity I have done in a long time. I recommend Humor in the Midst to everyone.
